CPF101
Description
This course, under the Apprenticeship Training Scheme (ATS), provides comprehensive training for computer fitters, focusing on assembling, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware systems. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience in hardware assembly, system diagnostics, and peripheral integration, preparing them for roles in IT, manufacturing, and service industries. The course aligns with the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and complies with the Apprentices Act, 1961.
Objectives
- Assemble and configure computer hardware systems, including CPUs, motherboards, and peripherals.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and basic software issues efficiently.
- Perform preventive maintenance and upgrades on computer systems.
- Adhere to safety standards and industry best practices during installation and maintenance.
Schedule
The course spans 8 weeks, combining basic training and on-the-job practical training as per ATS guidelines. Each week focuses on specific skills essential for computer fitters. Below is the detailed breakdown:
Week 1: Introduction to Computer Hardware
Overview of computer fitter roles, workplace safety, and introduction to computer components (e.g., CPU, RAM, motherboard) under ATS.
Week 2: Computer Assembly
Assembling computer systems, including installing processors, memory, storage drives, and power supplies.
Week 3: Peripheral Installation
Installing and configuring peripherals like monitors, keyboards, printers, and networking devices.
Week 4: System Diagnostics
Using diagnostic tools to identify hardware faults, such as POST errors and component failures.
Week 5: Troubleshooting Hardware Issues
Resolving common hardware problems, including overheating, connectivity issues, and component incompatibility.
Week 6: Preventive Maintenance
Performing cleaning, updating drivers, and upgrading hardware to ensure system longevity.
Week 7: Basic Networking and Safety Compliance
Setting up basic network connections and ensuring compliance with electrostatic discharge (ESD) and safety standards.
Week 8: Final Project and Assessment
Completion of a comprehensive computer assembly and maintenance project and preparation for the All India Trade Test (AITT) under NCVT.
Assessment Methods
Apprentice performance is evaluated through a combination of practical, theoretical, and participatory components, preparing them for the National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC):
- Weekly Assignments: 40%
- Midterm Project: 20%
- Final Project: 30%
- Participation and Attendance: 10%

Additional Notes
Apprentices must be at least 14 years old and meet the minimum educational qualification (typically 10th grade passed or equivalent, preferably with a background in science or IT, as per trade requirements). The course includes basic training (20-25% of the program) and on-the-job training, with a stipend provided as per NAPS guidelines (e.g., Rs. 7700 per month for one-year ITI trade passed apprentices, as per Gazette notification dated 25th September 2019). Successful completion leads to the National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) upon passing the All India Trade Test (AITT), recognized for employment in government and private sectors. The training emphasizes practical skills in computer hardware assembly and maintenance, addressing the growing demand for skilled IT technicians in India’s technology sector.
